Piers Morgan didn’t hold back when it came to commenting on The Queen’s health, saying it was a “worrying time for Britain” after it was revealed that the 95-year-old monarch had tested positive for COVID-19. Her Majesty received her diagnosis shortly after son Prince Charles and daughter-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, announced that they had also tested positive for the virus (she is believed to have been in contact with the Prince of Wales on February 8th, when he hosted an investiture at Windsor Castle) although a statement from the palace suggested that she was only experiencing very mild cold-like symptoms.
The 56-year-old former Good Morning Britain presenter took to Twitter on February 20th to comment on the situation, while also wishing The Queen a speedy recovery. Alongside a picture of The Queen smiling, Morgan wrote: “Wishing Her Majesty, The Queen a full & speedy recovery from COVID-19. Worrying for any 95-year-old person to catch this virus, and a very worrying time for Britain when it’s our Monarch. Good luck, Ma’am.”
Among the obvious cynical and troll-like comments were many genuine messages of concern for The Queen. "Mum will be absolutely fine. She’s a fighter our precious Monarch. Sending love and prayers to our Queen," one user wrote in reply to Morgan's tweet, while another added: "Wishing Her Majesty a full recovery from South Africa. What an amazing person she has been throughout the decades, never put a foot wrong. Wish she would step down so that she can have her well earned rest and see her son get crowned." "Please get well your majesty we need you to make a full recovery!" exclaimed another.
Despite the palace initially saying that Queen Elizabeth II would still be undertaking "light duties" while isolating at Windsor Castle, it was later revealed that she had rescheduled two virtual appearances, we assume to allow herself more time to rest. "The two virtual audiences that had previously been scheduled to take place today will now be rescheduled for a later date," read a statement from the palace. "Her Majesty is continuing with light duties. No other engagements are scheduled for this week."
