Pink is no stranger to standing up for herself and her values, and her recent response to a troll who body-shamed her is no exception. The “What About Us” singer took to Twitter last week to defend herself against far-right critic Stew Peters, who is known for spreading hate, false COVID-19 information and conspiracy theories.

The Grammy winner’s witty and powerful comeback to his unprovoked attack was met with an outpouring of support from her fans, who have been rallying around her since the incident occurred. As fans cheer for the mom of two and applaud her for standing up to the online harasser, let’s take a closer look at the exchange that has sparked thousands of tweets, replies, likes and re-tweets.

Pink Epically Claps Back At Body-Shamer On Twitter

On April 24th, Peters tweeted an image of Pink performing with the caption, “Those aren’t child-bearing hips.” The photo showed the “Just Give Me a Reason” hitmaker on stage singing while rocking a long-sleeved, bedazzled black crop top and low-waisted matching pants. The outfit showed off her toned abs and overall sculpted figure.

Fans immediately tweeted in her defense, with one writing to Peters, “Why? I have friends who’ve have more than 2 children and they look like this! Because they’re athletic and work out like warrior Queens!”

Another added, “Actually, they are. She has had two children.” Someone else pointed out that Peters was a “creep” for focusing on Pink’s body and suggested that he should “get a life.”

Pink joined in the following day, and fired back at Peters, writing, “Oh, Stewie . Stewie Stewie Stewie. You’ve got too much free time” with an apt clown emoji. The 43-year-old “So What” crooner, as fans know, shares two children— 11-year-old daughter Willow and 6-year-old son Jameson with her husband of 17 years, Carey Hart.

Fans Defend Pink Against the Right-Wing Troll

Naturally, even more of Pink’s devotees joined in on the chain with another tweeting, “That’s hard work and dedication to achieve a core most can only wish they had.” Someone else replied, “You look fantastic! Super fit and beautiful.”

The musician has often opened up about her androgynous style, body image and positivity, and learning to love and appreciate her figure. In a moving speech at the 2017 VMAs, she told viewers how she encouraged her daughter to embrace her individual beauty and not to cater to societal expectations. “We don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty,” she said at the ceremony.

For an interview with Billboard in 2019, Pink was shown music videos from her career and was asked to comment on them. She said she remembered going to a fitting for the 2013 “Just Give Me a Reason” video thinking she was “fat,” and not wanting to wear anything that showed off her body.

Years later when revisitng the clips, she said she realized she “was so thin.” She went on, “That’s what we do to ourselves, and we should stop it, and now I’m almost 150 pounds, and I look f—king awesome.” (We agree!)

In an August 2020 Instagram post, she shared a photo of herself surfing with fans, and wrote, “I always wondered why God gave me thunder thighs. It’s cause he knew I’d use them.” She added a hashtag that read “strong is my goal.”
