The One Pizza Topping You Should Never Order At Domino’s, According To An Employee

September 30, 2017 by Lisa Cupido

No matter where in the U.S, you roam, there's usually one guarantee: if you're hungry, there's probably a Domino's pizzeria within driving distance. Since the 1960s, Domino's has been serving us delicious classic pizzas, specialty pizzas, and (in recent years) goodies like cheese-stuffed breads, sandwiches, pasta, and salads. No matter the holiday or time of day or night, you can usually rely on Domino's to deliver the goods when other pizzerias and restaurants are closed.

We love Domino's — specifically for the numerous pizza toppings it offers. But that doesn't mean all toppings are equal. Here's what one employee had to say about the one Domino's pizza topping you might want to resist.

Domino's Pizza Toppings

First, some quick facts: Domino's is constantly adding and updating its menu. It's no surprise that it currently offers more than 25 pizza toppings that include everything from traditional pepperoni and and green peppers to goodies like pineapple, Philly steak, and mushrooms.

The Worst Domino's Pizza Topping, According To An Employee

Since Domino's is a franchise with 5,000 restaurants across the U.S., it's only natural that employees in different states are going to have contrasting opinions about the best and worst pizza toppings. For one Domino's employee working in New York City, the choice was obvious.

"Pineapple, all the way," the employee laughed. "It's on the Honolulu Hawaiian pizza and you can order it as a regular topping, but I don't know why you would do that to yourself or your family. It makes your entire pizza taste like sugar water, in my opinion."

Believe it or not, pineapple speciality pizzas aren't exactly giving you much of a nutritional boost, either.

Health Facts About Specialty Pizzas

Indulging in an occasional Domino's specialty pizza is totally fine – but beware of the sodium and calorie content in these slices, which are loaded with toppings. Even the Honolulu Hawaiian pizza, considered one of the healthier options, packs 11 grams of fat, 250 calories, and 580 miligrams of sodium per slice.

Of course, everything is relative when it comes to fast food choices. Compare the Honolulu with one slice of the Meatzza pie (which is topped with pepperoni, beef, Italian sausage, and ham and has 19 grams of fat, 380 calories, and 1,030 miligrams of sodium per slice) and you may be more than happy to deal with a few slices of "watery" pineapple amidst all that cheesy goodness.
