Planters Nuts Recalled In Publix & Dollar Tree Due To Potential Listeria Contamination

Two Planters nuts products sold in five states at Publix and Dollar Tree stores have been recalled by Hormel Foods Sales LLC, the FDA announced on May 3.
The recalled products include Honey Roasted Peanuts and Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts that may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. Find all the info—including what to do if you are in possession of one of these recalled products—below.
Planters Nut Recall
This recall includes Planters nut products that were distributed to Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina, as well as Dollar Tree locations in South Carolina and Georgia.
Hormel realized the nuts may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes—which can lead to fatal infections—after distributing the products in April.
The following products have been recalled:
- 4 oz. packages of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts, UPC 2900002097, best if used by 04 11 258.75 oz. cans of Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, UPC 2900001621, best if used by 05APR26
If you are in possession of either of these products, the FDA urges you to discard of them or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
Luckily, there are no reports of illnesses related to these products at this time, but it's crucial to take recalls like this seriously. As the FDA warns, listeria monocytogenes "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems." Even healthy people may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, in diarrhea. Additionally, infection can result in miscarriages and stillbirths.
