Earlier this month, fans of Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian on TikTok expressed curiosity as to why the two Kardashians stars frequently appear with a particular expression that resembles a disgusted look — often deemed a “stink face” — as though they have caught a whiff of something unpleasant.
Some have speculated that this is a result of cosmetic surgery, as it appears rather artificial. Jenner, 26, and Kardashian, 43, are no strangers to plastic surgery speculation and the ongoing rumors surrounding their alleged use of cheek fillers.
Two plastic surgeons were just interviewed by Evie Magazine, who offered their insight into the possible cause behind the celebrities’ frequent use of this expression, and what potential surgical treatments they may have undergone that could contribute to it.
What Is The Viral 'Stink Face' As Seen On Kylie Jenner & Kim Kardashian?
At the beginning of November, one TikTok user (@omgiloveskincarelol) went viral after uploading a video that analyzed recent photos of the reality stars and suggested that their "stink faces" were due to specific cosmetic procedures. The post accumulated millions of views, and many fans in the comments were torn as to what the sisters might have underwent if they did go under the knife recently. Some suspected rhinoplasty and others guessed that they got cheek fillers, lip fillers, lip flips, etc.
These critics specifically focused on two recent appearances from Jenner and Kardashian — when the Kylie Cosmetics mogul attended the Schiaparelli Spring/Summer 2023 fashion show in Paris this January, and when the SKIMS founder came to the opening of Swarovski’s new Fifth Avenue flagship in New York City last week. Both of these times, some say, is when the "stink face" was most apparent and noticeable.
According to Dr. Konstantin Vasyukevich, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in New York, this peculiar expression exhibited by Jenner and Kardashian could potentially be attributed to the presence of filler injections in the nasolabial folds, as reported by Evie. These are commonly known as laugh lines, which extend from the corners of the mouth to the nose.
The expert noted that although these fillers may diminish the prominence of deep lines, some individuals may exhibit an unusual appearance when they smile, emphasizing that this outcome is contingent on their unique features. "This appears to be the result of a filler injection to nasolabial folds," Vasyukevich told the outlet regarding Jenner and Kardashian's expression.
"People with naturally full cheeks will always have these folds on a deeper side (think of a hill next to a valley)," Vasyukevich added. "Smiling, of course, makes these folds look even deeper. When a filler is injected to the area, it makes the folds look shallower. If the nasolabial folds look too shallow for someone with full cheeks, it might make the smile look a bit unnatural."
Dr. Sean Kelishadi, the President of SSK Plastic Surgery and a board-certified plastic surgeon, also told the publication that the cause of the "stink face" varies among people and can sometimes be attributed to filler migration. He also noted that the loss of volume in the nasal area could be a contributing factor.

Additionally, Kelishadi emphasized that specific angles may play a role in the appearance of the scrunched look. "I think it's just a focus of how some photos are taken," he said. "With each person, it could be a different reason from atrophy or deficiency of volume at the piriform aperture vs filler migration."
Many fans continue to believe that Jenner and Kardashian's elevated and full cheekbones could potentially contribute to their expression known as the "stink face."
Sitting down with The Mirror this year, Dr. Eugenia Bonelli, co-founder of the Prima Face Aesthetics clinic, said that she suspects Jenner has undergone a procedure to enhance her cheeks using fillers.

"Despite her recent claims that she only had lip fillers, in my opinion, the youngest of the Kardashian's appearance has changed quite a lot over the years," Bonelli said. "If we have a closer look at her nose, the tip looks much more refined, and the bridge is more narrow. Therefore, I believe one of the first procedures she had at a young age is likely to have been a rhinoplasty."
The doctor went on: "Moving to her middle face, her cheekbones are more defined, and her face becomes more sculpted over the years. Even though we lose fat as we get older, Kylie is only 25 years old. It's very possible that she achieved this look with cheek fillers and buccal fat removal."
Other specialists continue to share their belief that Jenner's elder sister Kardashian possibly received an ample amount of "filler treatment," as well.
Overall, several experts have concurred with the opinions voiced by numerous people in the comments of the TikTok post - the unflattering "stink face" expression of Jenner and Kardashian can most likely be attributed to cheek fillers.
