Fans React To Viral TikTok Of How Much Prices Have Increased At McDonalds During Inflation—’It’s Insane’
December 31, 2023 by Julia DeKorte
McDonald’s is one of many fast food giants that have been raising their menu prices in recent years, and customers are quite angry about it. In 2022, McDonald’s reported that their menu prices went up 10%, and in 2023, they reported the same statistic, at the same time recording record profits. Outraged customers have reported paying $16 and $18 at their local McDonald’s for a combo meal, and others have called for a boycott.
Many of these angry customers have taken to social media to share their thoughts, and some dedicate whole videos to the cause. User @SideMoneyTom made a video about inflation at McDonald’s, saying that the price of some menu items have gone up 350% over the past couple years. Keep reading for more information.
In the video that @SideMoneyTom posted, he’s standing in the McDonald’s drive thru filming the menu and the prices of different items, especially the $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu. “If you look at the menu here,” he says, “what’s notable is that they have a 1, 2, 3 Dollar Menu, and if you look, none of the items are even a dollar anymore.”
On the menu, the closest things to $1 are soft drinks for $1.39 and iced coffees for $2. Other items like the Sausage McMuffin and the Sausage Biscuit are buy one, get one for $1, but are priced at $3.79 and $2.89.
“A bunch of these items that are on here like McChicken, McDouble, that sort of thing, I used to order them all the time back when I was in high school, and that was only a couple years ago and they were always a dollar,” @SideMoneyTom said. “Nowadays, their McChicken is $3.19, McDouble is $3.59. That is literally 320% to 350% inflation in three to four years.”
“If this trend continues,” he says, “It’s reasonable to think a McChicken in three years could be $6, and a McDouble, $7.”
