Prince Charles is speaking out about the importance of caring for the environment. During an online discussion through the Royal Society, the Prince of Wales explained that he worries for the future of the planet, and thinks about how climate change will impact the lives of future generations.
The 72-year-old issued a strong statement on the matter, calling it “sheer madness” to ignore the dangers of climate change.
The Prince of Wales did not reference his grandchildren by name, but clearly had their futures in mind during his talk. He explained, "We have a duty of care for this planet that is absolute. We know day by day, we are rapidly destroying the fabric of the natural world for ourselves, for our children and grandchildren, and testing this planet to disruption."
Prince Charles continued, "It is sheer madness to continue on this path. Sir Partha Dasgupta's seminal review is a call to action that we must heed, for ladies and gentlemen, it falls on our watch and we must not fail."
According to People, the review states that "economic growth has come at the expense of the rapidly declining environment — and if this path continues, humans would need the resources of 1.6 planets to maintain the current way of life."
Besides giving a dire warning about the impact of climate change, Charles also detailed how he plans to approach it.
In the statement, Charles explained the initiatives he had already undertaken in an attempt to take care of the environment.
"Last month I launched my Terra Carta as a way to put nature at the heart of our economy and essential to a sustainable future," he said. "Recognizing the fundamental value of nature, it is also why I established the Natural Capital Investment Alliance which aims to make natural capital an investment theme across asset classes."
