The Royal Family is still experiencing the aftershocks of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey. In particular, it sounds like Harry’s father, Prince Charles, is still trying to decide how best to navigate the situation.
During the Oprah interview, Harry did not mince words when it came to his relationship with Charles. He admitted that his father stopped taking his calls at a certain point. When Oprah pressed him for a reason, Harry replied, “Because by that point, I took matters into my own hands. It was like, I need to do this for my family. This is not a surprise to anybody. It’s really sad that it’s gotten to this point, but I’ve got to do something for my own mental health, my wife’s, and for Archie’s, as well, because I could see where this was headed.”
.
Since the bombshell interview, a source close to the Royal Family has opened up about Charles' reaction to the tell-all-interview. Speaking to Daily Mail, the insider explained that Charles' "mood is that of a father, not that of a statesman."
The Prince of Wales hopes to "mend [the] broken relationship" with his youngest son
Charles was "deeply hurt" by the interview
The source continued, "You are looking at a father who is deeply hurt by where he finds his relationship with his son. But, after much reflection, he also realizes that nothing good will come of prolonging the fight. He feels it is time to heal. Now is the time to mend a broken relationship."
The two previously enjoyed a close father-son relationship. In fact, Charles was the one to walk Meghan down the aisle for their royal wedding. With this history in mind, it's no surprise that "the Prince has a real desire to get back to the close relationship that he enjoyed with Harry for the longest time."
Apparently, a conversation is forthcoming. "A conversation has to start sometime both with Charles and also with Prince William," the source says. "They will be in touch in one form or another over the coming weeks… possibly in writing, possibly over a video call."
Gayle King says the family has been in touch
Although this certainly sounds like a good sign, their most recent conversations have not been "productive." Gayle King revealed on CBS This Morning that the Royal Family had been in touch since the interview -- yet their relationships definitely need some more TLC.
"I'm not trying to break news, but I did actually call them to see how they were feeling," she explained. "And it's true, Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too. The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive. But they are glad that they have at least started a conversation."
