Prince Harry‘s bombshell memoir Spare has exposed so many secrets about the royal family. And we are still thinking about one of the revelations about Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s royal wedding on April 29th, 2011.

According to Prince Harry’s explosive book which was published in January 2023, he had to pretend to be his older brother’s best man because Prince William didn’t want his two closest friends, i.e., his real best men, to be hounded by the press in the leadup and aftermath.

Prince Harry's Confession About Prince William And Kate Middleton's Wedding

The Duke of Sussex, 39, detailed the "bare-faced lie" in his memoir, and said the now Prince of Wales, 42, forced him to keep up the charade so that his two closest friends could avoid unwanted media attention.

The Prince of Wales also reportedly didn't want his younger brother to do other traditional best man duties, such as giving the best man's speech.

Prince Harry Didn't Even Give The Best Man's Speech

"Willy didn't want me giving a best man's speech," Prince Harry added in his memoir, as per The Mirror, before going on to explain how James Meade and Thomas Van Straubenzee were the ones who gave the best man's speech at the reception.

Prince Harry did play some sort of role in the royal wedding though. He travelled to Westminster Abbey with his brother, and also introduced the two *real* best men before they gave their speech.

This anecdote seems to suggest that the rift between the brothers has been going on for far longer than the world initially thought.
