Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a home for themselves in California after leaving England in 2020, but it seems like they won’t even be heading back for Christmas. According to reports, the ex-royals will be staying at their home in Montecito for Christmas rather than reuniting with the Royal Family for the holidays, pointing to signs of continued tension.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made waves when they left their royal duties behind in 2o20, and not the good kind. After countless accusations of mistreatment, racism, and emotional abuse from the Royal Family, Meghan and Harry effectively ruined their relationship with Harry’s family, and there don’t seem to be any signs of reconciliation in the future. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle won’t go to the UK for Christmas

Christmas is the best time of year to spend time with family, but Harry and Meghan appear to want to keep their circle small this holiday season. According to royal expert and commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, they will not be making the trip to the UK to celebrate, citing the extended tension between family members as the reason.

“The rift means there is no such possibility at the moment,” Fitzwilliams said about a royal Christmas reunion. “I suspect there is a mixture of emotions there.”

Eased tension in the future?

However, there have been reports of Harry house-hunting in the UK, wanting to invest in a home base in London. A source told The Mirror that Harry is the one "leading" this movement, as he and his wife, Meghan, were quite "divided" over the decision.

Royal expert Duncan Larcombe believes this is a great idea, and would help to "ease tensions with [Harry's] family," and give Archie and Lilbet a chance to get to know their aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Just last week Harry and Meghan reportedly shared a "warm" phone call with King Charles on his 75th birthday, that marked "a notable shift" in their strained relationship. Perhaps things are looking up?

Fan reactions

Many fans were divided over whether or not the Royal Family would even want Harry and Meghan to join them in Christmas celebrations at the palace.

"Personally, I think the King will want to enjoy Christmas in peace without all the added drama that surrounds Harry and Meghan," one user wrote on Reddit.

"Harry and Megan would turn a wonderful holiday into a media-fest," another person posted. "The Royal Family will want to enjoy Christmas in peace and they definitely won't be able to do that with those two there."

But others had a bit more Christmas joy in their hearts. "Christmas is a time of peace and forgiveness and family time," one user wrote. "Now is the perfect time for reconciliation."

"Now is as good a time as any to reconnect and forgive," added another person. "Best to start the new year on a new page."

"I agree," one person replied. "Everyone is probably tired of all this fighting."

Hopefully, the Royal Family is headed toward more peace between family members as the holiday season approaches.
