Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Demoted On Official Royal Family Website
Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, have had their positions on the 'Members of the Royal Family' section on the official website changed quite a few times over the past few years. After they stepped down as senior royals in 2020, they were moved below Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Princess Anne. Their individual pictures and profiles were below some of the 'minor' royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra, and just above Prince Harry's disgraced uncle Prince Andrew, who was the last royal to feature on the page. (See above.)
However, things have now taken a turn for the worse for Harry and Meghan, as their individual profiles have disappeared (for what it's worth, Prince William and Kate Middleton have individual profiles just below King Charles and Queen Camilla) and they have one joint Duke and Duchess of Sussex profile. (Check it out below!) They are the only married members of the royal family to not have their own individual profiles. And to make matters even worse, they are now the very last royals on the page, with Prince Andrew now above them. That must sting!
What Does The Royal Family Website Say About Prince Harry And Meghan Markle?
Their joint bio immediately references Megxit, and reads: "As announced in January 2020, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped back as working members of The Royal Family. The couple married in St George's Chapel, Windsor on 19 May 2018 and have two children: Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex."
It seems like a positive bio, and highlights Prince Harry's work in the Armed Forces, as well as his charity work. For Meghan's short bio, her work as an actress is highlighted, as is her now-defunct lifestyle website, The Tig. No word on her new lifestyle website American Riviera Orchard though, but perhaps it will get a mention when the royal family website has another update.
It also draws attention to Harry and Meghan's new website at the end, reading: "Information about the current work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex can be found on their official website: sussex.com." And just in case there is any confusion about their titles, the website clears that up too.
"The Duke and Duchess were given their titles by Queen Elizabeth II on the day of their marriage," the website reads. "The Duke of Sussex's official titles are The Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. He was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) by Queen Elizabeth II in June 2015. The Duchess's official titles are The Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel."
Internet Reactions
As expected, Prince Harry and Meghan being downgraded on the royal family website got a lot of attention on social media! The @RNN_RoyalNews X account posted a screenshot of their new position on the website, alongside the caption: "Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have once again been demoted on the royal website! They are now under a single joint banner and below the Duke of York. Now, for a second they were completely off the website, but I'm disappointed to see them still have some sort of spot, especially as they continue to work to monetize their royal connections in direct conflict with the Sandringham agreement set up by the Queen."
One X user commented: "They, along with Andrew, need [to be] removed." "On the top of their page though it does make clear they aren't working members of the royal family. But it would have been better if they along with Andrew were removed all together," concurred another. "Unacceptable the RF provided them an official avenue to redirect to their new website," criticized one user, as another said: "It's ridiculous."
"I just hope this website will one day be ONLY for working royals so Andrew and those traitors will be removed from there for good!" exclaimed another critic, as another thought "they shouldn't" be on the website at all. The user added: "Harry is a traitor to the crown and the commonwealth. I hope it all changes when William becomes king." "There is absolutely no valid reason for them to be on there! The King must know the public overall are NOT HAPPY," noted another.
