Although King Charles was the one who evicted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage in 2023, it was reportedly something the late Queen Elizabeth II was considering before she passed away in September 2022.
According to royal author Robert Hardman’s book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, the late Queen Elizabeth II wanted to evict her grandson and his family from the property to give it to her son, Prince Andrew.
The Late Queen Elizabeth II Reportedly Wanted To Evict Prince Harry And Meghan Markle From Frogmore Cottage And Give It To Prince Andrew
"Had she lived another year, he would have been out," a former close personal adviser reportedly told Hardman, in reference to Prince Harry.
"It was her plan to move him out, to end the lease for the Sussexes at Frogmore Cottage and to move Andrew in there," the source continued, adding: "It was mainly a money thing, as she could see it was becoming unsustainable."
Prince Andrew Wants His Daughter Princess Eugenie To Move Into Frogmore Cottage
The Duke of York is still living at Royal Lodge, much to older brother King Charles' disapproval. And although the disgraced royal has no plans to move into Frogmore Cottage himself, he *does* want to see his daughter live there!
According to Ok!, Prince Andrew is reportedly keen for his daughter Princess Eugenie to move into it with her family. Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack currently split their time between the U.K. and Portugal, and even temporarily lived in Frogmore Cottage after welcoming their first son, August. But Prince Andrew wants to make it a little more permanent!
"Andrew won't move into Frogmore but is still trying to wangle it for his family," an insider reportedly said, adding: "Eugenie has stayed there on and off since Harry and Meghan left for America. She's stayed there a number of times since the Sussexes departed and Andrew is trying to secure the property as a full-time home for his daughter."
"Eugenie and Jack 's hearts lie in the U.K. and they need a bigger home for their family," the insider went on, adding: "They adore Frogmore Cottage and have stayed there often so making it into a full-time home makes sense."
And sister Princess Beatrice isn't going to get FOMO, as the source said: "Andrew knows Beatrice is settled so wants to make sure Eugenie finds a property that she can call a family home."
