Despite having left their royal duties—and their royal status—behind when they moved to America 5 years ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly taken to insisting that their staff call them “ma’am” and “sir.” This doesn’t even scratch the surface of accusations from former staff members, with many more—and worse—working conditions reported. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Require 'Ma'am & Sir' Titles

Old habits die hard it seems, as Meghan Markle wanted to leave the royal family behind but apparently still want to use those royal titles. A source who used to work with the ex-royals spoke to Vanity Fair about their request: "I think ultimately it's cachet and sets them apart as different and special."

Others who have worked with Harry and Meghan on the production of Archetypes, their podcast, and Harry's book tour, agreed, adding that they were "instructed to address the couple as sir of ma'am." Speculating as to why they made this specific request, the source continued, "In the US, success, money, fame, all of that stuff exists out here. But a blood title, it's few and far between."

Not The First Time...

This isn't even the first time reports of the couple requesting to be addressed as "sir" or "ma'am" has surfaced. The CEO of the Invictus Games, the competition that Prince Harry founded, Scott Moore, has previously admitted that he was told "Ma'am is fine," to address Meghan, and "Sir" was appropriate to address Harry.

It's common practice to address royal family members as "Your Royal Highness" or "Sir" / "Ma'am." It appears that Meghan and Harry wanted to leave their royal duties behind, but not the fancy titles and perks that come with it.
