Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be staying in their $14.65 million home in Montecito, California for a little bit longer than they had planned, as they may have trouble selling it! According to several reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nine-bedroom, 19-bathroom mansion is currently engulfed in a foul odor; and it hasn’t gone unnoticed, as neighbors are reportedly “disgusted” by the smell! Woah!

“The odor issues are sporadic and sometimes they are worse in some conditions. I’ve seen lots of homeowners closing their windows when it wafts over,” said Cameron Benson, a clean water manager for the City of Santa Barbara, according to The New York Post. Although a few people have suggested that the smell is coming from the former royals themselves (*ouch!*), the smell is actually thought to come from the nearby Andrée Clark Bird Refuge which is reportedly just a six-minute drive away from the mansion, with Benson adding: “The Bird Refuge does sometimes emit an unpleasant odor. But it does not smell now, and has not for some time.”

Another source reiterated this, telling The Mirror that the water from the 42-acre saltwater marsh can become "stagnant," which is what can lead to the strong and unpleasant odor. A local resident also told the newspaper that "It smells like offal that has been rotting in the sun. It makes my stomach churn." Perhaps the smell is one of the reasons why Harry and Meghan want to leave their current home, as this isn’t the first time they have had issues with unwanted odors. Last year, it was reported that they had been living near a legal cannabis factory, as their mansion was near to 20 large greenhouses full of cannabis plants which caused the entire neighborhood to complain. New odor control systems were installed following the complaints.

Harry and Meghan first purchased their mansion – which is situated on 7.38 acres and features a tennis court, a spa, a pool, and a separate two-bedroom, two-bathroom guest house – in June 2020. It's now reportedly thought to be worth an eye-watering $26 million, according to a Zillow estimate, although we’re not sure if that takes the odor into consideration! We wonder if Harry and Meghan's Montecito neighbors – who include Oprah Winfrey, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ellen DeGeneres – are also affected by the smell…
