2024 hasn’t gotten off to the best start for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as they are reportedly considering selling their $11M home in Montecito, California and moving to a smaller property in a different area because their neighbors are getting “sick” of them.
According to The Mirror, many of their neighbors have been annoyed by the drama that is constantly surrounding them, and the media attention they are always receiving. “Harry and Meghan live down the street but in a considerably pricier spot, though nobody around here is exactly living in cardboard boxes. Since we never see them, local tolerance seems to mirror USA tolerance in general,” Barry Maher, a PR and communication expert who lives near the Sussexes told The Mirror.

"People who like them seem to have an unlimited tolerance, no matter what they do, somehow tied to the 'handsome prince falls for commoner' fairytale. Everyone else is either unimpressed by the traveling soap opera or is just sick of hearing about them," he added.
It's no secret that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been looking at other properties in other parts of California over the past year, with several reports suggesting that they wanted to move to Malibu. The move to Malibu is reportedly "integral to Meghan's Hollywood relaunch," according to The Express.
Are Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Moving To Malibu?
"In recent weeks they have been looking for specific properties – private enclaves away from prying eyes," a source reportedly told The Express back in November. "The word is they are now settled on a specific spot and have the realtor sworn to secrecy. It's been very much under the radar because the pair are so adamant to keep their home private. They do not want a circus around this."
"Meghan's friends and contacts from her Hollywood days have been supportive in aiding them in their hunt. There is still some working out to do about whether they will move full time or split it with Montecito," the insider added.
Prince Harry Might Prefer To Move To New York Instead
Also at the end of last year, there were reports that Prince Harry wanted to "sabotage" their potential move to Malibu, as he was becoming enamored with the Big Apple instead!
According to The Mirror, an insider told Heat magazine that Prince Harry enjoyed "the fast pace, the culture, the social scene" in New York. Additionally, the source noted how it would be much easier for the father-of-two to visit the U.K. if they lived in New York, as a flight to London takes eight hours compared to the 11 hours it takes from Malibu. There have been several reports over the past year about Prince Harry feeling "lonely" in the U.S., so having an easier journey to the U.K. could make things easier for him.
"Harry was all gung-ho for the Malibu move a few months ago. Yes, it was Meghan's idea, but he was excited about it," the insider began. "It feels odd that now he wants out of that Californian life and is suggesting they buy a place in New York instead. It's almost like he's trying to sabotage things because it makes zero logical sense," they added.
Although Prince Harry is said to be swaying towards New York, the insider confirmed that the former Suits actress wants to be close to LA for her career, noting at the time that she had been there "multiple times a week."
They have apparently reached a compromise, with the source saying: "She says maybe once they've made a success of things in Hollywood, they can look at getting a place in New York." So could they be moving from Montecito to Malibu this year and then settling in New York in a few years? Only time will tell!
