Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come under fire once again – this time, for launching two brand new Netflix shows while both King Charles and Kate Middleton are undergoing treatment for cancer.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are working on two shows with the streaming platform – one of which is said to focus on the former Suits actress and her passions such as cooking, gardening, and more, while Prince Harry is taking the reins on the second one, which will reportedly focus on polo. These are in addition to Meghan launching her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard just a few months ago, which is said to be like her now-shut-down lifestyle site, The Tig.
Royal Commentator Says Meghan Markle Is 'Not Reading The Room'
Talking about Meghan's timing in regards to launching her lifestyle brand amid the King and the Princess of Wales' health battles, royal commentator Lizzie Cundy told Nana Akua on GBN America that she is "trying to relaunch herself as a Gwyneth Paltrow type" and is "not reading the room."
One of the first products to come from American Riviera Orchard is Meghan's own brand of jam, which celebs such as Chrissy Teigen and Kris Jenner received samples of and shared pictures on Instagram. But Cundy isn't impressed! According to GB News, Cundy said people are "sick to death of her across the pond," and launching jams through her American Riviera Orchard brand is "fake and phoney."
"I don't think anyone will be interested at all. It's fake. It's phoney. It's cheesy," Cundy speculated, adding: "I think people are really seeing her for what she is. I think she should come out and actually apologize for what she's done to poor Kate, and maybe not be so insensitive."
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Netflix Shows Are Slammed Too
Cundy also didn't think that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announcing their new Netflix shows came at the best time, either. "They've got these new Netflix shows about making jam and cookery and gardening, and then Harry's about polo playing; it's not really relatable," she said. "I think it's pretty insensitive when Catherine's going through what she's going through and the King is going through his cancer issues too; it's really insensitive, to be honest. Akua wholeheartedly agreed, saying she found it "quite astonishing that they think that people won't look on this and think how ridiculous they are."
"It feels to me that they should realize how ridiculous they're coming across, how heartless and insensitive they look, but they don't appear to realize any of that," Akua added, to which Cundy responded: "They never read the room do they? They're so into themselves they can't see the wood for the trees."
Social Media Reactions
Prince Harry and Meghan have faced a lot of backlash on various social media platforms over the past few months. Commenting on a YouTube video about Meghan's lifestyle brand launch from the 'Real Housewives Recaps' account, one person said: "She walks around her house in a ballgown in daytime, yet she wears ripped jeans [and] is barefoot when she first invites Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales to dinner." "Wandering around an empty house wearing a ballgown – she has finally become the Miss Haversham that she was dreaming about!" exclaimed another.
"The late Queen was 100% correct when [she] called Meghan a bad woman," commented another, as someone else said: "She is lucky to have a blindly supportive husband who willingly allows her to squander his inheritance away on 24/7 PR, luxury wear, senseless and meaningless projects. Just wait until that money is all gone..." Another YouTube viewer added: "Her launch assumes that people will want to identify with her. This is how wrong she is, so arrogant, so blind to her own failings."
