Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be trying their best to convince everyone that they are living their best lives in the U.S. since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, but the couple are reportedly still hopeful that they will be asked to return to their working royal life in the not-so-distant future.
We don’t know whether this will happen though, as Prince Harry, 39, has reportedly already volunteered to step in with temporary royal duties following his father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, and his request was immediately turned down. According to reports, older brother Prince William does *not* want that to happen!
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Reportedly Want To Return To Royal Duties 'On Their Own Terms'
Royal author Tom Quinn discussed the possibility of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returning to working royal life on their own terms – something which they wanted from the beginning when they first discussed the possibility of stepping down as senior royals. And in a nutshell, he doesn't see it happening any time soon, if ever!
"Both Meghan and Harry still hope that at some point they might be asked back to become working royals on their own terms — it's a rapidly shrinking possibility, but the couple have talked about this at length and the fact that senior royal numbers are seriously down at the moment has rekindled their hopes," Quinn said in an interview with The Mirror.
"As I understand it from palace contacts, they are kidding themselves if they think they will be invited back in any way," he added.
Could Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Return To Royal Duties Following Kate Middleton's Cancer Announcement?
Could the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan issued a brief yet seemingly heartfelt statement following Kate Middleton's cancer revelation change Prince William and the rest of the royal family's minds about a return to working royal life? Only time will tell!
If you'll recall, Prince Harry and Meghan issued the following statement following the Princess of Wales' video on Friday, March 22nd: "We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace."
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also weighed in on the situation, telling The Sun that the Princess of Wales' cancer revelation may be the "perfect opportunity" to end the royal rift once and for all.
"This is a dread situation, a major operation followed by cancer," he told the pub. "There is always sometimes in the most awful and serious thing sometimes opportunities come as well... one must hope there is as much positivity as possible that's what she is spreading with the message like that. This is also an opportunity for the trolls and the evil people spreading malicious rumors to be silenced."
