Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could very well be heading back to the U.K. in the not-so-distant future whether they like it or not, as Prince Harry’s U.S. visa could be in trouble again now that Donald Trump has won the presidential election.
According to reports, it seems like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s current life in Montecito, California could be in jeopardy as the duke potentially faces more issues with his visa. Earlier this year, it was reported that Prince Harry’s U.S. visa application was under review by a judge after he admitted to previously using drugs in his bombshell memoir, Spare, which was released in January 2023.
Back in September, we wrote that Prince Harry’s immigration status was quietly settled in court, with court records showing that the case was terminated on September 9th. There’s very little known about why the case was brought to an end or what it means for Prince Harry’s visa status right now, but various outlets are hinting that Trump returning to the White House could cause trouble for the royal and his family.
What Does Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Strained Relationship With Donald Trump Mean For Their Future In The US?
Although Prince Harry and Meghan didn't vote, nor did they explicitly pick a favorite candidate in the presidential election, it was widely speculated that they were team Kamala Harris when they posted a video to encourage people to vote a few months ago. And their strained relationship with Trump is likely to go against them in terms of Prince Harry being allowed to stay in the country.
Trump previously made it clear that he didn't think Prince Harry should have been allowed to move to the U.S. after he confessed to using cocaine, smoking marijuana, and experimenting with magic mushrooms as a teenager in his memoir. And he wasn't alone, as the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington D.C., previously launched a lawsuit to investigate whether Prince Harry lied on his visa application when he and Meghan moved to California. And according to reports, the foundation now believes that Prince Harry's visa could once again be in trouble.
"I do think there's a strong possibility that this could happen. It's the president's prerogative," Nile Gardiner, Director of the Heritage Foundation's Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom said, according to The Independent, adding: "Also the new Homeland Security Secretary could order a review of Harry's immigration application."
"There are multiple things that could happen but it would be in the best interests of the American people if the Trump administration releases Prince Harry's records for public scrutiny and Harry should be held to account," Gardiner added.
Donald Trump Has A Lot Of Thoughts About Prince Harry And Meghan Markle
It's not just Prince Harry who Trump has issues with. He also made his feelings on the former Suits actress clear on several occasions in the past, telling Piers Morgan back in 2022: "Harry is whipped like no person I think I've ever seen." He then speculated that the American Riviera Orchard founder will probably "leave him when she decides that she likes some other guy better."
More recently, Trump made his feelings about the couple clear during a political conference back in February, when he reportedly claimed that he thought the Biden administration had been "too gracious" to Prince Harry since he and Meghan moved to California.
His feelings reportedly come as a result of his high opinion of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and he allegedly doesn't think too highly of the Sussexes due to their "fierce, vengeful attacks" on the royal family. He reportedly previously told The Express: "I wouldn't protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That's unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me."
Eric Trump Also Weighs In On Prince Harry's US Visa
Prince Harry's right to stay in the U.S. was reportedly addressed by Trump's 40-year-old son, Eric Trump, one week before the election. He allegedly claimed that the only reason Prince Harry's U.S. visa is currently safe is because "no one cares" about him.
"Truthfully I don't give a [expletive] about Prince Harry and I don't think this country does either." Interestingly, he then said that he did not think his visa should be revoked because of his past drug use, adding: "I don't give a [expletive] if he did drugs. It means nothing."
