People Are Slamming Prince Harry After His Bombshell Memoir Gets A Release Date: 'Spare Us'

Despite his and Meghan Markle’s best efforts to postpone it, Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir will be released in just three months’ time! And as you can predict, the internet has had a *lot* of negative thoughts about it! (But more on those later!)

Spare

The book will be released on January 10th, 2023, and will be called Spare; most likely in reference to the media jibes about his older brother Prince William, 40, being the heir to the British throne, and Prince Harry being cruelly dubbed the “spare.”

When the memoir was first announced, Prince Harry, 38, and the publisher teased that he wouldn’t hold anything back, and would go after everyone in the royal family! Since then, however, Prince Harry has reportedly tried hard to tone it down and even remove some of what he had already written, out of respect for his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and his father, King Charles III, i.e., the current monarch. While we don’t know how much of the “bombshell” content will remain, we *do* know that Prince Harry will go into detail about the moment he and his brother walked behind their late mother Princess Diana’s coffin in her 1997 funeral procession, which the publisher has described as “emotionally powerful.”

An “emotionally powerful story”

“Penguin Random House is honored to be publishing Prince Harry’s candid and emotionally powerful story for readers everywhere,” Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle said in a press release. “He shares a remarkably moving personal journey from trauma to healing, one that speaks to the power of love and will inspire and encourage millions of people around the world.”

Charity donation

The Duke of Sussex has already revealed that he will be donating a large portion of the profits to charity, including $1.5 million to Sentebale, the HIV/AIDS-focused charity in Southern Africa which he co-founded back in 2003 with Prince Seeiso, as well as £300,000 to WellChild, a charity that supports children with disabilities and their families. But despite all of that, Prince Harry and the book itself are getting huge criticism on social media!

Social media reactions

The internet was full of negative reactions to the name, the picture, and the memoir in general! "He acts like he was the first 'spare' in the history of England," wrote one Instagram user, in the comments section to Vanity Fair's post of the cover.

"Spare us!" exclaimed another. "And he hasn’t been the spare in 10 years," the user added, in reference to the fact that Prince William and Kate Middleton's eldest son, Prince George, became the next in line to the throne, after his father, when he was born in 2013, therefore pushing Prince Harry down the list.

Current line of succession

The line of succession is as follows: King Charles III's heir apparent is his eldest son, Prince William. His eldest son, Prince George, 9, is second in line, followed by his sister, Princess Charlotte, 7, and her younger brother, Prince Louis, 4. Prince Harry is currently fifth in line to the throne, while his firstborn, three-year-old son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, is sixth.

More negative comments

The negative comments inevitably continue! "Strange title given he hasn't been the 'spare' for nearly 10 years," agreed another IG user. "He needs to get over himself," wrote another. "Whining is so unbecoming," concurred another. "Entitlement at its finest," quipped another.

"The definition of privacy according to Harry: sell your soul and the honor of your family to the highest bidder for public consumption! He will regret this! Neither his mother nor his grandmother would have wanted this!" someone else commented. "No one cares about this… so much for a quiet life away… they release these interviews podcasts and memoirs. They’re asking for the backlash and the drama," another user added, while another said: "Tired of him and his wife."
