Prince Harry Reportedly 'Regrets' Slamming Kate Middleton In 'Spare' Amid Her Cancer Diagnosis: 'A Painful Place To Be In'

Prince Harry reportedly “regrets” the things he wrote about sister-in-law Kate Middleton in his bombshell memoir, Spare, following the news of her cancer diagnosis.

If you’ll recall, the Duke of Sussex, 39, slammed the Princess of Wales and the British monarchy several times in his memoir, including claiming she made his wife Meghan Markle cry in that infamous argument about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, and saying she “grimaced” when Meghan wanted to borrow her lip gloss.

Prince Harry Reportedly Regrets What He Wrote About Kate Middleton In 'Spare'

Royal expert Dr. Tessa Dunlop told Us Weekly that the Princess of Wales' cancer diagnosis, which she bravely revealed in a video last month, "reframes everything" for Harry. "When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you've written stuff that can't be retracted, that's quite a painful place to be in. I'm not saying it isn't," Dunlop shared.

"They deliberately criticize the monarchy [and then offer] themselves as an alternative to monarchy," she continued. "So then when the monarchy is in trouble, we do kind of make a comparison. Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now? They're certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn't look opportunistic.”

Prince Harry's Spare regrets were also discussed on TalkTV, with Cristo Foufas talking to royal expert and ToDiForDaily founder Kinsey Schofield about Dunlop's revelations.

"This is Dr. Tessa Dunlop, who I don't always agree with, but she told Us Weekly that Prince Harry is likely feeling a lot of regret surrounding Spare and surrounding the Princess of Wales' cancer diagnosis," Dunlop recapped. "She said when you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you've written stuff that can't be retracted, that's quite a painful place to be in; and so I think that she probably is right on the money here and that Prince Harry is probably having a lot of regrets right now."

"I mean quite right, too. Here's an idea – don't write a book slagging off your family, because you don't know what might happen to that member of your family," Cristo said, adding: "Will he be having regrets about it? I don't know, maybe he'll write about it his next book. My pain, my regret, and everything else. I'm sure they'll find a way of monetizing that down the line. I'm quite sure indeed."

Internet Reactions

As expected, the internet had a lot to say! "Harry does not care about Catherine, he cares about himself and how to clean his image," wrote one person in the comments section of the above YouTube video from the TalkTV episode. "So now Harry is on his 'regret' tour. Please. Nobody is buying their PR spin," quipped another. "Narcissists don't have empathy. He's self centered like his other half," wrote another user.

"I really don't care if Henry is feeling regret about Catherine Princess of Wales. He shouldn't have written that nonsense in the first place," someone else wrote, which seemed to be a common thought in the comments section. "I have no sympathy for Henry, he knew what he was doing," slammed another.

"If he is having regrets, which I doubt – then TOUGH! He can't now have them and then try to shut the gate after the horse has bolted," another user wrote, adding: "Too much damage and hurt has been done on his part and allowing the nasty piece of trash he married to do her part – unforgivable on so many levels! If in the unlikely event that the family forgive, the British people won't!"
