Prince Harry and his mother, Princess Diana of Wales, had a very close and loving bond before her tragic death in 1997, and this, insider Tina Brown reportedly says, is partly why the Duke of Sussex probably won’t attend his father’s inevitable coronation. The funeral for the beloved ‘people’s princess’ was famously held at Westminster Abbey, where Prince Charles and wife Camilla Bowles‘ joint coronation is expected to one day take place.

As this church is where his mother’s unexpected and devastating funeral was held 25 years ago, according to Private Eye, per OK!, Harry does not want to attend a more joyous event at the same location. (For context, many expect the historical landmark to be the site of the Prince of Wales’ big day since his mother Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 coronation was held at Westminster Abbey.) “He doesn’t want Camilla to be queen; he’s very angry that it’s happening,” adds Brown, author of The Palace Papers regarding Harry’s reaction to the Queen’s recent announcement about his stepmother “He has not made his peace with it, and he probably never will,” she continues.

As depicted on The Crown, Bowles and Prince Charles infamously carried on an extramarital affair while he and Diana were married. Charles and Diana divorced in 1996, Diana passed in 1997, and he eventually married his childhood sweetheart in 2005, years after breaking Diana’s heart, which Harry has reportedly never forgiven. Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, also detailed Harry’s alleged feelings in an interview with Closer. “After the reports she was involved in his parents’ marriage and then stepped into Diana’s shoes as Charles’ wife, I suspect Camilla will be in his sights [for Harry’s upcoming memoir], so I’d say Harry’s set to reveal any Camilla secrets,” Burrell said. “He’s already said he enjoys The Crown, which painted Camilla as the wicked stepmother in a way.”

According to Marie Claire, an anonymous source also recently revealed that Harry and his stepmom never got along. “He didn’t take kindly to Camilla. This was the woman who had stepped into his late mother’s shoes and Harry was not about to welcome her as a future stepmother,” they reportedly said. “He was often over polite and generally cool towards Camilla. And the more he learned about his dad’s affair with her, the more distant he became. It took Harry years to accept her but, like William, as he grew up, he realized that his father’s happiness must come before his own feelings,” they alleged.

Another insider, the publication writes, allegedly said that Harry once told a friend; “She got her claws into my dad and never let go for an instant. That’s why my mom died—because she fled to Paris instead of being safe with her family.” Seeing Bowles crowned Queen Consort where his beloved mother’s funeral took place, we might add, seems (understandably) tumultuous and emotional.
