Prince George turned 11 years old on July 22nd, which his parents proudly commemorated by sharing a brand new photo of him to social media. However, the future heir‘s birthday post wasn’t the only royal thing to make headlines that day, as Prince Harry also made his own announcement.

On that same day, the Duke of Sussex, 39, announced that he would be bringing the Invictus Games to the U.K. in 2027. Birmingham, to be exact. And while some people were thrilled that the games would be taking place in the U.K. for the first time since 2014, many others thought his announcement could have waited a few more days, as they felt it was a blatant attempt to overshadow Prince George’s big day.

The Prince And Princess Of Wales Celebrate Prince George’s 11th Birthday

The official @KensingtonRoyal X account shared a gorgeous black and white picture of Prince George looking dapper in a black suit with a white shirt on July 22nd, with the caption: “Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today!” The account also credited the Prince and Princess of Wales for the photo, although it’s being reported that Kate Middleton is the one who took the picture.

“HB to a dashing young Prince!” exclaimed one royal fan in the comments. “And congrats to his mother for another fab photo,” they added. “What a handsome boy! Happy Birthday Prince George, have a brilliant day,” commented another fan, as a third added: “Oh my word, this handsome Prince. Lock up your daughters.”

Prince Harry Announces That The Invictus Games Are Coming To The UK In 2027

When announcing that Birmingham had been selected to host the Invictus Games in 2027, Prince Harry said: "We have no doubt the people of Birmingham will join in celebrating the unwavering respect and admiration we have for our veteran and service community, showing the world how their courage ignites hope and unites us all – something your city knows well."

Many royal fans took to social media to say that Prince Harry's announcement taking place on the same day as his nephew's birthday was no coincidence. And journalist Dan Wootton also felt the same way, making his opinion known on his Outspoken show.

"This is also really terrible. Prince Harry upstaged young Prince George's lovely birthday release of those pictures by Catherine Middleton by announcing on the same day that the Invictus Games are going to be held in Birmingham in 2027," Wootton shared.

"It does just show you how pathetic Prince Harry is," he continued. "He knew it was George's birthday, he knew the picture was going to be released. He wants to steal the thunder with his Invictus Games announcement." He added: "It's just pathetic gameplaying yet again."
