Prince Harry may have made the kind gesture to drop everything and fly to the U.K. to visit his father as soon as he learned of his cancer diagnosis, but that doesn’t mean that things will ever go back to the way they were. And that includes Prince Harry temporarily filling in for King Charles while he is undergoing cancer treatment!
According to reports, several palace aides believe the Duke of Sussex has “zero” chance of returning to public duties “in any capacity;” especially since the feud between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William is still far from over.
Palace sources reportedly told The Mirror there is no chance of Prince Harry returning to royal duties. This is partly because Prince William simply would not allow it, as he believes his brother and his wife, Meghan Markle, “cannot be trusted.” A palace insider reportedly told the pub: “It is absolutely and categorically clear that he would not allow Harry to return. There is a zero percent chance Harry is coming back in any capacity.”
Prince Harry Reportedly Wanted To Temporarily Return To Public Duties To Help His Father Out
According to the Telegraph, Prince Harry, 39, was hoping that he could take on a "temporary working role" and undertake some public duties that are typically given to senior royals while his father is undergoing treatment for his cancer. However, King Charles, 75, also appears to be quite adamant that there is no chance of that happening!
According to the Daily Mail, an insider explained that King Charles is "firmly of the opinion" that there is "no way back" for Prince Harry to return to his pre-Megxit life "in any way, shape or form," after he and the former Suits actress stepped down as senior royals in 2020.
This will presumably please Queen Camilla too, as she was reportedly "furious" with Prince Harry during his brief trip to the U.K., and apparently made it very clear that he wasn't welcomed back. An insider reportedly told the National Enquirer: "After the father-son reunion, I hear she told Harry he's a disgrace to his father, the family and the monarchy – and she left no doubt he isn't wanted back!"
King Charles Has Counsellors Of State To Help Him With Royal Duties
Prince Harry needn't worry about his father not having anyone to help him out, as there are several Counsellors of State who can step in if needed.
King Charles quietly removed Prince Harry and Prince Andrew as Counsellors of State shortly after his accession. However, the King's siblings Princess Anne and Prince Edward were named Counsellors of State for King Charles for life in the latest Counsellors of State Bill, which they typically wouldn't have been in other circumstances. I.e., if Prince Harry hadn't stepped down as a working royal, and Prince Andrew wasn't fired as a working royal.
Queen Camilla and Prince William are also likely to be called on to help the King out, if needed, although Prince William may be taking less on as he helps wife Kate Middleton recover from her abdominal surgery, which she had last month.
