Prince Philip was known for being outspoken and oftentimes controversial, with some of his remarks including, “British women can’t cook” in 1966, and saying, “Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed” during the 1981 recession.

He also reportedly called a Cambridge University car park attendant who did not recognize him an “[expletive] silly fool” in 1997, and told a 13-year-old boy in 2001 that he was “too fat to be an astronaut.” So, it comes as no surprise to hear that he made quite the swipe at at grandson Prince Harry and new granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle during their royal wedding in 2018 too!

What Four Word Dig Did Prince Philip Make At Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Wedding?

According to reports, the late Prince Philip made a brutal four-word remark as the wedding party was leaving St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, reportedly telling the late Queen Elizabeth II: "Thank [expletive] that's over."

This allegation comes from Grant Harrold's book, The Royal Butler, as per The Mirror, which spills some secrets from his time working for King Charles from 2004 to 2011.

Although Harrold wasn't working for the royal family at the time of the wedding in May 2018, he was covering the event as a broadcaster, so he had quite the optimal spot to observe the action. He reportedly watched the royal party leave St. George's Chapel, which is when he allegedly heard Prince Philip make the remark.

Internet Reactions

"He always was a plain speaker. He was renowned for it - and loved for it. Top man," praised one fan on an Us Weekly Instagram post.

"I don't blame him, weddings are boring, the party is a different story!" exclaimed a second, as a third simply said: "He was right." "That wedding was a mess! Don't blame him," concurred a fourth, although a fifth exclaimed: "This is a lack of diplomacy!"
