Later that week, a royal insider said that the Duke would be staying at the hospital a little longer than originally planned: "Following consultation with his doctor the Duke of Edinburgh is likely to remain in hospital for observation and rest over the weekend and into next week."

However, the Duke reportedly remains in "good spirits," and is simply staying at the hospital out of an "abundance" of caution.

A follow-up statement from Buckingham Palace further explained his extended stay, "The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII's Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection. He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days."

During a visit to a vaccination center at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange, Prince William also commented on his grandfather's health. When asked, the Duke of Cambridge gave a perfunctory update on his Prince Philip's health, confirming that he was doing "okay."

He told reporters, "Yes, he is okay—they’re keeping an eye on him."
