The Duke of Edinburgh has reportedly returned to the King Edward VII Hospital after undergoing a “successful” surgery at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. It is now rounding on a month since Prince Philip was initially admitted, and there has been no word as to when he will be released. In a recent statement from the palace, Prince Philip was said to have been doing well, but royal expert Katie Nicholl has suggested otherwise.
Nicholl revealed to Entertainment Tonight prior to Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah, “They are much more concerned with the more serious matter which is the health of the Duke of Edinburgh who is seriously ill in hospital.” She continued, saying, “There are calls by some royal commentators and experts who believe that this interview should be rescheduled and aired at a less sensitive time for the Royal Family...And there are even some reports circulating that Prince Harry's being asked to come home to see his grandfather.”
However, Nicholl’s claims have yet to be confirmed by the royal family, nor has there been a health update on the Duke of Edinburgh as of this week. Most recently, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, spoke out about Prince Philip’s health, saying, “We heard today that he’s slightly improving. So that’s very good news."
Hopefully more updates will soon come regarding the status of Prince Philip’s recovery, but the royal family is juggling a number of issues this week amidst backlash from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview. The Duke Of Edinburgh is now approaching over a month in the hospital, so hopefully the 99-year-old is heading in a positive direction.
