On Jan. 17, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing that Kate Middleton has been hospitalized following a “planned abdominal surgery,” and would not only be staying in the hospital for “10-14 days,” but would also be canceling all royal engagements until Easter. Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond just gave some insight into how her husband and heir to the throne, Prince William is feeling. Keep reading for more details.

Prince William Is 'Bewildered' By Kate Middleton's Hospitalization

Speaking to OK! magazine, the former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes that this experience will test members of the royal family, Prince William in particular. "He'll be feeling emotional, stressed, and probably rather bewildered by this sudden turn of events."

In order to care for his wife and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Prince William has also canceled all of his engagements until Easter, which falls on Mar. 31st this year.

"You can have every privilege in life but your health is paramount and beyond your control," Bond continued. "William will certainly be there for the children. They want to keep things as normal as possible, so I'd expect William will be doing the school run, helping with homework, cooking and doing the bedtime routine."

Trying Times For The Royal Family

Not only was Kate Middleton's hospitalization announced on Jan. 17th, but King Charles' plans for hospitalization were announced as well. The King will be undergoing a corrective surgery for an enlarged prostate, so he has canceled some royal engagements as well.

"This is a testing time for them," Bond continued. "The Wales family has been through a lot of trauma recently with deaths, rifts, allegations and a Coronation, but they have managed to keep smiling through it all and their popularity has surged."

"To be hit by this most unexpected hammer blow is a real shock," Bond says, "but I'm sure they'll appreciate the outpouring of goodwill towards Kate and the whole family."

As of last week, the Princess of Wales is said to be "doing well," according to sources, and that the family has switched gears to being "100-percent family first, day job second," as they deal with this ongoing health crisis.
