Prince William dumping Kate Middleton via phone call back in 2007 wasn’t the only thing we learned from Robert Jobson’s brand new book Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography.
Also in the book, according to reports, is the fact that Prince William had some reservations about sister-in-law Meghan Markle wearing his late mother Princess Diana‘s jewelry when she married Prince Harry in 2018. Keep reading for more information.
Prince William Reportedly Spoke To The Late Queen Elizabeth II About His Concerns
Although Kate Middleton regularly wears the late Princess Diana's jewelry – including earrings, brooches, and of course, her sapphire and diamond white gold engagement ring! – Prince William seemed to have concerns about Prince Harry's then girlfriend wearing their late mother's jewelry.
According to Jobson, the Prince of Wales went to his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, when he learned that the former Suits actress wanted to wear some of the late Princess Diana's jewelry when she married Prince Harry back in May 2018. He was reportedly "concerned" about the American Riviera Orchard founder wearing his late mother's jewelry after still having some reservations about the bride-to-be.
"I've been told that William, still concerned by the match, even sought assurances from the Queen that his brother's bride-to-be would not wear any jewelry in the collection once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, even though his wife Catherine had been allowed to wear some, which would be due to her rank," Jobson wrote, according to the New York Post.
And it seems like Prince William (mostly) got his way! If you'll recall, Meghan wore Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau Tiara at the royal wedding, after reportedly initially requesting the Spencer Tiara. And although she didn't wear any of the late Princess Diana's jewelry at St. George's Chapel, she reportedly did wear her aquamarine ring to an evening reception at Frogmore House after the wedding.
