Despite King Charles III only stepping into his role as monarch in 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William is reportedly already growing “impatient” with being his father’s “understudy” and can’t wait to take the throne!

According to the Express, royal author Clive Irving believes that the Prince of Wales, 41, already has a lot of plans for the British monarchy, and doesn’t want to “wait until he’s 50 to take over” as king.

Prince William Is Reportedly 'Eager To Ascend The Throne'

Omid Scobie touched on Prince William's desire to become king in his bombshell book Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy's Fight for Survival, which was released on November 28th, and wrote that he believes the Prince of Wales is already upstaging his father in a calculated bid to take over as monarch.

Prince William seems to be doing well in terms of winning over the public – something which King Charles can struggle with – as royal author Tom Bower told the Express US back in August: "The monarchy is still popular. But I think William and Kate keep the whole flame going." And if we are to believe newer reports, the Prince of Wales is allegedly obsessed with how he and Kate Middleton are coming across to the public.

While promoting Endgame, Scobie said some very interesting things to French magazine Paris Match, according to the Express. Scobie reportedly told the mag: "It is also possible to think William is sometimes more concerned about his own image than that of the institution, which is not a good thing."

Scobie also wrote in his book that he believes the Prince of Wales "is eager to ascend the throne." When asked whether he believed Prince William would make a good king when the time eventually comes, Scobie seemed to have positive things to say. The royal author said that he believes Prince William has a "good vision" of the role and is aware of the changes which need to be made, referencing his choice to not have an investiture ceremony when he was appointed Prince of Wales.

Prince William's Mission To Modernize The Monarchy

Irving seemed to echo this, according to a December 3rd article in The Express, and went on to say that one of Prince William's biggest missions is to modernize the monarchy in a bid to gain younger supporters.

"People under the age of 40 don't think the monarchy is very relevant or that it plays a role in their lives," the Last Queen: Elizabeth II's Seventy Year Battle to Save the House of Windsor author said. "There's a great deal of feeling that William understands the mood and the reality on the ground far more than Charles ever will." He also went on to say the late Queen Elizabeth II "set the bar impossibly high."

"The Queen did manage to play a role in people's everyday lives. Whatever she did, she was an accepted piece of the state furniture. He's not been able to make that breakthrough," he said, in reference to King Charles. Prince William "knows all this," Irving stated, "and does he have to wait until he's 50 to take over? It's absurd really." He added: "He's growing impatient with being his father's understudy. The moment is now."
