Prince William And Prince Harry Reportedly Had A ‘Huge Rivalry’ Long Before 2020, Royal Expert Says: ‘They Were Never Friends’

Some people might think that Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud started around the time Meghan Markle came into the family. After all, Prince Harry, 38, wrote in his bombshell memoir Spare that he and William, 41, had a physical altercation about the 42-year-old former Suits actress, which led to William knocking him to the floor.

However, it doesn’t take much digging to discover that the brothers always had somewhat of a sibling rivalry between them (even though Princess Diana reportedly went out of her way to ensure her youngest son wasn’t treated as the spare.) Prince Harry touched on some of it in his memoir, which was released in January this year, and even referred to his brother as his “arch-nemesis.”

Royal author Ingrid Seward has touched on the sibling rivalry once again, and reiterated that they were “never really great friends” when they were growing up, which therefore makes the fact that Prince Harry regarded his old polo friend Jack Mann as his true best man, and not his older brother, more understandable.

Prince William And Prince Harry's Sibling Rivalry

Ingrid Seward, who penned the 2020 book Prince Philip Revealed among many others, said that Prince William and Prince Harry had a "huge rivalry" long before Megxit – and long before Meghan even came into the picture.

"The press painted this lovely picture that they were great friends, but they weren’t. There was always a huge rivalry between them," Seward claimed, adding, "They were never really great friends and I can’t see them coming back together until maybe many, many years in the future." Wow!

What Could Bring Prince William And Prince Harry Together Again?

So what could bring the brothers together? Seward believes that we will be waiting a long time for them to fully patch things up, but doesn’t doubt that the brothers will be there for each other in true times of need, whatever they may be. She said: "If disaster struck one or other of them, that would bring them together. But I cannot see it happening otherwise."

The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex have put on brave faces in public since Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020, including their grandfather Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021. Also that year, they came together to unveil a statue of their late mother Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday. However, things were a little more frosty in 2022 at their grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, with Kate Middleton saying that seeing Prince Harry and Meghan at the Windsor Walkabout following the late monarch's death was one of the hardest things she ever had to do.
