Prince William, 41, has been slammed on social media for doing “the bare minimum” for wife Kate Middleton, 42, following her planned abdominal surgery earlier this month. Kensington Palace confirmed that the Princess of Wales underwent planned abdominal surgery on Tuesday, January 16th, and was expected to remain at the London Clinic for around one to two weeks before continuing her recovery at home.
Earlier today – Monday, January 29th – the palace released a statement to tell fans that the Princess of Wales finally returned home after being an inpatient for 13 days, and is “making good progress.” The palace also thanked the “dedicated nursing staff” at the London Clinic, and confirmed that she is continuing her recovery at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate. She is not expected to return to her royal duties until after Easter, as King Charles reportedly didn’t want to put any pressure on her, and wanted her to take her time with her recovery. Aww!
Prince William Slammed On Social Media
As the Princess of Wales will be out of action for a few months, the Prince of Wales is also expected to undertake fewer royal duties as he looks after his wife and their three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. However, he has already received some backlash from the public, as they thought that he wasn't doing enough for his wife while she was in hospital.
Why have the public formed this opinion, we wonder? It's hard to say, but judging from the social media comments, the fact that he hasn't been pictured at the hospital much since the news of her surgery came out may have something to do with it.
The TikTok account @Royal_Secrets24 shared a two-image carousel of the Prince and Princess of Wales with the caption: "Princess Catherine is hospitalized for 10-14 days. Prince William cancelled all of his engagements to take care of her." One person commented, "The bare minimum," followed by two crying laughing emojis. "That's what I'm saying," replied another, in apparent agreement.
"He visited her one time at the hospital? I'm pretty sure it was 3 days after the fact too lol," commented another, although we don't know how they formed this opinion. "More the nurses are going to be taking care of her and him using it as an excuse not to work," quipped another, as another TikTok user referenced the cheating rumors, writing: "And then he cheats on her."
"That's never been confirmed, it's only a rumor," replied another fan, as a few others seemingly came to his defense. "Y'all saying it's the bare minimum but this is a bit different bro is a prince and they are really strict over there," thought one fan, as another concurred, writing: "People keep saying it's the 'bare minimum' but forget not a lot of men would do that for their wives take off time to take care of them."
Reddit Users Have Mixed Opinions About Pictures Of Prince William At The London Clinic
On Friday, January 19th, a Reddit user shared some pictures of the Prince of Wales arriving at and/or leaving the London Clinic. He was pictured behind the wheel, with one user thinking he looked slightly "annoyed" in the pap pictures.
Many users did defend the Prince of Wales, with one writing: "He looks like he's been crying. I hope she is ok." Another said: "I'm not a huge fan of the Waleses but sweet merciful leave them alone. She's obviously going through something. Let them be." "That glare on his face. He's had it with whatever paparazzo took that photo," thought another fan.
"I don't think he's looking in any annoyance at the photographers here," another fan thought, adding: "To me he looks solemn and concerned for checking on how Catherine feels, is doing and her overall health." "Yep. He looks like a man who is shaken by seeing/knowing his wife is unwell," thought another, as someone else said: "Why not both? He probably has a short fuse from spending most of his energy on Kate."
"Goodness. Obviously understanding the situation, but to me he looks more than worried like he's been crying his eyes out. I really hope everything turns out okay," thought another user, as another chimed in: "I thought he'd been crying too. That photo made me say an extra prayer for the family." Not everyone was convinced though, with one user writing: "The comments are wild to me. This man looks like he's worried and/or 'crying his eyes out?' Where? He looks vaguely annoyed at most."
