I’ll be the first to admit that our editors at SheFinds spend *a lot* of time on the latest and greatest in anti-aging methods. But aging doesn’t have to be this terrifying thing that we’re fighting against, I recently learned.

Celebrity cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank is flipping the script with his new book, “The Pro-Aging Playbook.” He even calls aging a “blessing.” We needed to hear this!

I recently visited his NYC office to learn more about the approach and undergo several “Pro-Aging” procedures. Here’s everything you need to know:

What Is ‘Pro-Aging’?

“Pro-aging” is a term coined by Dr Frank as a response to the ubiquitous phrase “anti-aging.” The term refers to Dr. Frank’s mission to inspire and educate people on how to embrace the aging process. We all needed this!

“We all want to look and feel our best, so with this book, I really just wanted to motivate people to start thinking of the aging process as more of a blessing and something to be excited about,” Dr. Frank said. Well, that’s a change for the beauty industry.

“It’s about using all of these different cosmetic and health and wellness tips that I share to help find the best version of yourself, whatever that means for you.”

My Skin Issues

At 35, I was experiencing a “little bit of everything”–dark spots (made worse by birth control), fine lines, acne scars and redness.

Dr. Frank believes in focusing on skin quality first. “No matter how much Botox or filler I inject, it’s not going to get rid of every single line or wrinkle. It’s more important to focus on improving sun damage, rosacea, pigment, uneven skin texture, tightening and toning,” he says in his book. “That’s what’s going to get you great skin now and in the long run.”

After inspecting my skin, he suggested four treatments: Excel V & Laser Genesis, NeoElite, Clear + Brilliant and Vivace Radio Frequency-Delivered Microneedling.

The Results

The most immediate results I saw were on on the dark spots–it was incredible. Within hours of the procedures, my dark spots appeared like coffee grounds on the skin and then were gone completely after a few days. I’ve had these dark spots for years–which Dr. Frank was the first person to tell me were from birth control–and so to turn back time like that was amazing.

At about the two week mark, the overall tightening is what really blue me away. My skin, from forehead to neck, was overall tighter and honestly, looked like it did *years* ago. It’s a very strange thing that happens over time where we see a younger version of ourselves when we look in the mirror. It’s not until we address the skin issues that we actually see the difference. This 100% happened to me. I am so happy with how I look in the mirror now; in fact, forget the girl from ten years ago, I like this version better!

And the best part is that results are permanent.

“What’s nice about the energy-based devices like Vivace is that they don’t wear off, they are cumulative,” Dr. Frank told me at my follow-up. “So we are really making permanent changes in the quality of the skin.”

Now who doesn’t want that?
