Why Using A ‘Balmy’ Concealer With A ‘Sheen’ Is Vital Over 40, According To A Pro MUA
In her post about “anti-aging makeup tips,” Taylor explained how to find the best hydrating concealer for aging skin that won’t dry out your complexion or inadvertently settle into fine lines or wrinkles.
Taylor commenced her video by evaluating a concealer’s suitability on the back of her hand. She sought to ascertain if the concealer would match her skin tone and type while also ensuring it would not further exacerbate dry skin, as it naturally loses moisture over 40.
"When choosing a concealer, test it on the back of your hand," she explained. "If it looks immediately dry on your hand, it will be immediately dry on your face," she noted. Taylor then showed viewers her concealer of choice, the $22 Glossier Stretch Balm Concealer.
According to the brand, the product is a versatile concealer that can be layered and seamlessly blended for a luminous, radiant effect. With a shade range of 32 options, it is suitable for camouflaging everything from under-eye circles to acne and inflammation.
She said that mature beauties should always "opt for a balmy, creamy concealer that does not get crusty on your hand."
Taylor then applied one line of the aforementioned Glossier product beside another line of an unnamed liquid concealer on the back of her hand.
The MUA noted that her favorite one was "still hydrated and had a sheen" whereas the other was "immediately dry," and she deemed it a "no from me."
A hydrating, balmy concealer, she stressed, is always a "yes" for mature skin, as it "just glides on" the under-eye area, as she then demonstrated.
This then led to a more lifted look, while also effortlessly covering her dark under-eye areas. The creator also explained that she chose the "Glossier shade light 4," which is light with pink undertones.
The Bottom Line
In addition, she pointed out that this concealer didn't over the "fullest coverage" out of all the ones she tried, but that it was "fine" when paired with water-based foundation, another kind of makeup product many makeup artists recommend for hydrating drier mature skin.
