Probiotics contain a number of different strains of bacteria. When taken, this “good” type of bacteria mingles with the bacteria in your gut, creating a balanced system that helps banish inflammation (which is linked to obesity and belly fat).
But certain bacteria have been shown, more so than others, to play a role in weight loss and belly fat loss benefits.
According to Healthline: “It is thought that certain probiotics may inhibit the absorption of dietary fat, increasing the amount of fat excreted with feces. In other words, they make you ‘harvest’ fewer calories from the foods in your diet.
Certain bacteria, such as those from the Lactobacillus family, have been found to function in this way.”
Two strains of bacteria called Lactobacillus fermentum and Lactobacillus amylovorus can be found in both probiotic supplements and foods like yogurt.
According to one study, participants who consumed more probiotic-rich yogurt each day experienced a 3 to 4 percent decrease in body fat over a 6-week period.
It’s a great idea to take your probiotic supplement in the morning, before breakfast, and then eat a protein-rich breakfast like eggs with a fat source from a healthy food like avocado.
You can also opt for foods that contain probiotics, like yogurt, kombucha, and miso soup. Enjoying these foods in the morning — or prior to any meal — may just prove to be that extra small step that helps you burn more belly fat.
