Queen Camilla And The Late Princess Diana Were Involved In A Historic Love Triangle
Most avid fans of the royal family know all about the legendary and destructive love triangle that consisted of Charles, Diana, and Camilla. Before meeting Diana, Charles, the Prince of Wales at the time, was good friends with Camilla, whom he met at a polo match in 1970. Although they reportedly hit it off right away, they never married, and Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles four years before he met Diana.
The current king and queen remained close after he married Diana at their famous London wedding in 1981. However, during their marriage, which quickly grew toxic, rumors began circulating that Charles and Camilla were seeing each other behind Diana's back.
A few years later, in 1989, a scandalous phone call between her and Charles, who the public thought were just "friends" at the time, was recorded and eventually leaked in 1993, following his and Diana's separation, revealing to the public that they had been romantically involved while married to other people.
Therefore, it's been known for years that Diana and Camilla were never particularly friendly, and reportedly did not like each other at all. In fact, they both had some pretty cruel nicknames for each other.
Queen Camilla Reportedly Used To Call Diana A 'Mad Cow' And A 'Mouse' Behind Her Back
Tom Bower, a well-known British author, television writer, and journalist specializing in royal family history, wrote a piece about how Camilla would speak poorly of Diana during the 80s and 90s, when she was having an affair with Charles.
Reporting for the Daily Mail, Tom noted that Camilla's friends were "never in any doubt" about what she thought of the late icon. Allegedly, in the earlier days of Charles and Diana's marriage, Camilla would call her a "mouse," which is assumingly due to her quiet nature. But then, as years progressed, she reportedly started referring to the Princess of Wales as "that mad cow."
Tom also wrote that Camilla allegedly had unflattering cartoons of Diana hanging up in the guest bathroom of her private country home, Ray Mill, in Wiltshire, England. He also noted that Diana's "anger was evenly matched by the older woman's fury."
Charles controversially wed Camilla in 2005, eight years after the tragic passing of Diana, and the queen consort has faced a heavy amount of public scrutiny since. Still, she's continued to carry out her duties as the Queen of the United Kingdom, and will seemingly do so until it is time for Prince William to assume the throne.
