Queen Elizabeth II might not appear at the Braemar Gathering in Scotland this weekend (one of her favorite events of the year), which has many worried about her health. As reported by Sunrise, and according to the outlet’s royal editor Rob Jobson, if the Queen, 96, is absent, it will be “quite significant.” This, he says, could hint that there is “more going on than we’ve been told” in terms of her current health status.
Jobson also dubbed the highland gathering as one of the aging monarch’s most beloved events in her calendar, and it takes place on the first weekend of September every year. “I think it will be significant if she doesn’t attend,” Jobson added regarding her possible absence. “My understanding is they’re trying to work out ways to get her in, but the fact is that with the mobility problems she’s got, she’s struggling to stand on her feet, it’s difficult.”

The royal expert also expressed that he knows “she wants to go,” and reiterated that her absence would be a signal of something serious happening behind the scenes. “We’ve seen all the developments lately that have led to all the speculation,” he said, regarding her health. Interviewer David “Kochie” Koch asked Jobson, “Is there more going on than we’ve been told?”
Jobson replied, “It’s difficult to say but I suspect there is.” He continued, “I think that she’s pretty frail. But that’s to be expected of a lady of 96. She’s mentally fine, she’s carrying out her work with the red boxes. She’s just trying to fulfill as much as she can.”
Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son, Prince Charles, 73, has reportedly been visiting her frequently at Balmoral Castle, which some are taking as a “sign that she might not be doing well,” as one fan wrote on Twitter. Her son Prince Andrew, 62, and his daughters, Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 32, have also been recently visiting her.

The monarch was in talks to skip the annual Balmoral Welcome in Scotland earlier this month, due to her health concerns. According to Us Weekly, “Instead of hosting the usual public arrival at the Highlands estate, the 96-year-old monarch will be welcomed privately as she continues to experience discomfort and mobility challenges.”
The publication mentioned that usually, a simple ceremony takes place whenever the Queen visits her summer home. Scottish soldiers and followers of the royal family typically gather and welcome Her Majesty at the gates. This year, it seemed like that would not be the case. Instead, a royal source confirmed with People, “That arrival will now happen privately on the estate grounds.”

Us Weekly adds, “The royal matriarch has been paring down her appearances in recent months.” She was hospitalized in October 2021 and four months after, she got COVID-19. During this time, a source told Us Weekly, “Of course, she has a team of doctors to lean on whenever needed and a support staff that’s second to none. But thus far Her Majesty has been handling this without any fuss or need to involve too many others in her recovery.”

From missing the annual opening of the British Parliament to skipping the Thanksgiving Service during her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen’s health has recently been a concern for many. Sources say that medical experts have advised her to take it easy, especially as she performs her royal duties.
An insider shared with Us Weekly, “The Queen has been advised by her loved ones and trusted advisors to go a lot easier on herself, even if it means missing more functions than she would like. Her attendance at these events is being handled on a case-by-case basis … By not [overexerting] herself it’s giving her more energy to participate is as many of the events as possible.”
