The clip in question is from 2011, when Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, welcomed the Turkish president at the time, Abdullah Gul, and his wife, Hayrunnisa Gul, to Buckingham Palace. As the Queen prepared to greet the couple, she seemed to be unable to take her eyes off the Turkish first lady’s six inch platform heels.
Dressed in a pair of sensible court shoes herself, the Queen certainly had some thoughts about the shoes, though fans are divided over whether it’s horror, amusement, shock, disapproval, or just confused.
It was not uncommon for Mrs. Gul to wear high heels to any type of event, regularly showing up in 5 or 6 inch heels regardless of where she was going. But many fans thought it inappropriate or even disrespectful to wear them to meet the Queen of England.
