Rachel McAdams was a vision on the 2024 Tony Awards red carpet over the weekend, draped in a sheer and elegant black slip dress. The Mean Girls star‘s gown was adorned with an asymmetrical, white satin neckline, slinky straps, and a long black skirt.

The Notebook alum’s number also had a backless design, creating an overall glamorous and alluring look. The occasion was particularly special for McAdams, 45, as she received her very first Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her portrayal of the titular character in Mary Jane on Broadway. During the event, the stylish Canadian actress posed for several solo shots and attended with her parents, Lance and Sandra McAdams.

To complete her get-up for the ceremony, the About Time star wore her newly dyed warm brunette tresses down, parted in the center and styled into elegant, loose waves. For her makeup look, McAdams sported black liner, subtle smokey eyeshadow, voluminous lashes, ample rosy blush on her high cheekbones, and a pink lipstick to top it all off.

Back in April, McAdams made her debut as the lead in Mary Jane, and she chatted with People Magazine at the time, saying that it was an "honor" to perform on opening night. "Broadway was something I'd always wanted to do but felt really intimidated by," she revealed. "So to be standing on that stage feels like the completion of a longtime dream."

Despite her admission of nervousness when it comes to theater, McAdams said she is persevering through the challenges of performing on stage. She noted: "I'm less nervous now, but [the nerves are] still there; I still get nervous every night. And that's okay! We know that there's a certain amount of nerves that's good and propels you forward and just makes the performance that much more vibrant, so you want to keep some of them. I'm embracing the nerves!"

Mary Jane tells the story of a single mother who faces the challenges of caring for a sick toddler. Despite the difficulties, the character is known to remain composed and determined.

McAdams, who has two children with her partner Jamie Linden, drew upon her own experiences as a mother to bring authenticity to the role. "You've got a really ferocious mama bear in this play. I now, having my own children, really understand deeply what that is and what it feels like to know you would do anything for your child," McAdams dished to People.

The mom of two (who has one 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter) went on: "This mother lives in that place every day and I do understand that intimately. I don't think you have to be a mom to play a great mom, but it definitely lightened my load in terms of research and the guessing."
