We all know how important it is to maintain privacy online and on social media. You can meet just about anyone online, and while most connections tend to be positive friendships or relationships, the truth is that you don’t know who you are networking with when you first meet people online and it is very possible to run into hackers who are after your information.

When using social media, it is important to know who you are connecting with. The best practice is to keep your profiles private and only add friends you know personally, but we all know this isn't always possible. Many people rely on social media for professional uses, so privacy isn't an option for everyone.

There are other ways to keep your information secure without making your accounts private. But while using Twitter, you should make sure you never share your physical location or your account could be in danger.

Making your location public on Twitter might seem harmless, but there is a danger to it. If you share your location, anyone can access this information. Your tweets will show the state and city from which you made your post, and anyone can click on the icon to launch Google maps and zoom into your location.

Sharing your location on Twitter makes it very easy for people to see exactly where you are. There is no way to be completely sure that only close friends can see this information, even if your account is set to private. The best way to maintain security is simply to deactivate location sharing.
