There has been a lot of debate as to whether canola oil is healthy or not. But we can clear that up for you right now: canola oil is bad for you. And the reason why it is unhealthy isn’t what you would think. The reason has nothing to do with calories or fat.
On the surface, canola oil seems like it should be a better option than other cooking fats. For one thing, this oil has lower amounts of saturated fats compared to options like butter or olive oil. Plus, canola oil is made from natural ingredients, which people assume means it’s healthy. But the truth is quite the opposite.
Canola oil is very bad for you because it has absolutely no nutritional value, despite coming from natural ingredients. So basically, eating canola gives your body an okay amount of fat, though without any type of value to make it worth your while. This is different from other cooking oils that do carry some nutritional value, because the way that canola oil is made takes out all of its nutrients.
To make canola oil, rapeseeds are converted into oil at very high temperatures. In this process, all of the nutrients are stripped from the natural ingredients. In addition, the oil loses its flavor.
There are a ton of different oils you can pick instead of canola oil to get more nutritional value out of your food. Some popular options are olive oil, coconut oil or even butter.
