Beer is refreshing, delicious, and one of the most popular alcoholic beverages to serve at parties, events, you name it. In moderation, a pint of beer is fine and dandy. But if you're watching your weight or have health concerns. here are 9 legitimate reasons why beer is not the best choice.

9 Reasons Not To Drink Beer

1) Beer is loaded with calories — The average 12-ounce bottle of beer contains between 140 and 200 calories. Since beer doesn't have nutritional value, you can consider those empty calories that provide nothing back in return. A light beer, which has around 104 calories, is somewhat better — just be sure you aren't overindulging in more beers than you normally would because they're "light."

2) Beer contains gluten — Unless it specifies otherwise, beer contains malted barley — and malted barley contains gluten. This is a problem for anyone who experiences a minor or major gluten intolerance and can lead to gastrointesintal issues.

3) Beer can make you bloated — Drinking beer can cause major bloating. Not only does the carbonation cause abdomen bloat, but the consumption of beer retains water, which also contributes to a puffier appearance.

4) Alcohol damages the lining of the stomach — We sometimes think of beer as barely an alcoholic drink. But that mistake can lead to drinking way more beer than is healthy, and all of that alcohol content can damage the lining of the stomach.

Bad Things About Beer

5) Beer makes you run to the bathroom every 10 minutes — Beer slows down your body's natural antidiuretic hormones, which causes you to feel the need to go to the bathroom a lot more.

6) Beer can make you dehydrated — It may seem like a cold beer is quenching your thirst on a hot day, but as it prohibits your antidiuretic hormones from working at peak levels, you may find yourself losing too much fluid via sweat and urine. And this can cause dehydration.

How Too Much Beer Can Hurt Your Health

7) Beer can raise blood pressure levels — Too much beer can spike your blood pressure levels and can be bad for cardiovascular health.

8) Beer can cause heartburn — Beer can react with gastric acid, which can cause a wicked case of heartburn.

9) Beer and certain medications don't mix — Always ask your doctor before drinking beer while taking any medication. In extreme cases, beer and certain antibiotics or other medicines can cause vomiting, cramping, and severe headaches.
