As fans of The Voice await the show’s new episodes this week, many of us still aren’t over the wild and jaw-dropping premiere from last week! Viewers finally got to see the dynamic between new coach Reba McEntire and returning stars Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani and John Legend after months of teasers and little clips to go off of.
During the premiere, things got comically tense between McEntire and Horan in particular, with the country legend, 68, and pop star, 30, duking it out for contestant Jordan Rainer, 33. The hopeful singer performed an impressive cover of McEntire’s “Fancy” for her Blind Audition, and all four coaches turned their chairs around and tried to convince her to join their respective team.

McEntire began by attempting to build a connection with Rainer, asking how long she had been living in Nashville – to which the answer was eight years. The “I’m a Survivor” hitmaker then confidently asserted that choosing her as a coach would be an unforgettable experience, promising that the two would have a great time together.
However, as McEntire was making her pitch, Horan slyly pressed his red button, causing former coach Blake Shelton‘s voice to play throughout the room. With a few carefully programmed soundbites, Shelton gave Horan high praise and showered him with compliments, each one drawing laughs from the audience.
The relentless onslaught of Horan's prank ultimately proved too much for McEntire, who eventually got up from her seat and marched over to confront him. Standing defiantly in front of the "This Town" singer's button, McEntire tried to speak to Rainer over the blaring sound of Shelton's voice, all while attempting to silence Horan.
Ultimately, Rainer chose McEntire as her coach, proving that Horan's antics had failed to sway her decision. With many fans already predicting that Rainer could potentially win the entire show, it remains to be seen what surprises the coming episodes will hold.
Nevertheless, Horan can take comfort in his previous victory in Season 23 alongside Gina Miles, a contestant from his own team!
