According to Wilson, she took the time over 2020 to dedicate to her own health.
She explained, "I was determined in 2020 — the year of health — to actually fully change my whole entire lifestyle. So it meant not only, like, physically but mentally as well."
In addition, part of her determination to make these lifestyle changes came from her thoughts about fertility. Wilson explained, "I was thinking about fertility and having good quality eggs in the bank, so I was like, 'OK, I’m going to do this, I’m going to get healthy.'"
The actress has taken a holistic approach when it comes to weight loss.
"Nutrition was, like, a big deal because you can’t out-train a bad diet, which is something that I should’ve known, but really didn’t know this year. What I’ve had to do is really look at what I’m eating. I’m someone who grew up eating fast food several times a week," she explained during the Live. "But the problem is, I was eating it way too often and I have a real sweet tooth as I was just saying and basically, I only used to eat, like, carbs and sugar."
In addition to her nutrition changes and implementing a more mindful approach to eating, Wilson has also been exercising regularly, including walks, hikes, and weight-lifting.
Focusing on her mental health and overcoming emotional eating has also been a crucial part of making these changes for Wilson. She explained, "Emotional eating was kind of the thing that I did and dealing with the stress ... how I was dealing with fame and the pressures of work was by emotional eating."
It's something she still struggles with. "The old patterns still come up," she explained. "Maybe not every day. But if I’m worried or anxious or whatever it still comes up for me. It’s not something that’s just going to disappear, it’s just something I have to manage now moving forward."
The star also explained to Drew Barrymore that she has been feeling "healthier than ever" since making these lifestyle changes, but her goal is not to completely change her look.
She explained, "I love my curves and stuff. I don’t think I’ll ever go too skinny, but I feel so much healthier."
