Reese Witherspoon And Jim Toth Announced Their Divorce In March 2023
Witherspoon and Toth had been married for 11 years before jointly announcing their divorce on a now-deleted Instagram post back in March. In the post on Reese's account, the couple wrote: "We have some personal news to share… It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together."
The statement continued, "Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time."
Reese Witherspoon Gets Candid About Divorce From Jim Toth In 'Harper's Bazaar' Interview
This is now Reese's second divorce, having previously divorced Ryan Phillippe, 48, back in 2008, following a 9-year marriage and two children – daughter Ava, 23, and son Deacon, 19. However, it doesn’t seem like it's any easier second time around, as the Legally Blonde alum opened up to Harper’s Bazaar last month about how this is a very "vulnerable time" in her life.
"It's interesting what happened to me," the Oscar-winning actress told Harper's Bazaar. "When I was divorced before" – the star broke off her first marriage with co-star Ryan Phillippe in 2006 – "the tabloid media got to tell people how I was feeling or how I was processing, and it felt very out of control. To be able to talk to people directly about what’s going on in my life and just share it in the way that I share great professional experiences or personal experiences, it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening. Then, of course, there’s speculation, but I can’t control that. All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable. It's a vulnerable time for me."
She added that despite her busy creative schedule with acting, producing for her Hello Sunshine media empire, running an influential book club, and creating the Draper James lifestyle brand, she has been taking a break from the insane hustle and bustle of her normal work life, slowing down "just a little bit." "My brain has been going nonstop, and just life changes and running a company," the Reese's Book Club founder confessed. "But that’s okay. I really believe creativity is infinite and you’re just looking for that next bit of inspiration, so if you go through a little slow period, that’s okay."
Witherspoon-Toth Divorce Was Reportedly 'No Drama'
Aside from the original Instagram statement and her references to the divorce in her Harper's Bazaar sit-down, both Witherspoon and Toth have remained relatively mum about the circumstances surrounding the end of their marriage. "There is no drama, no event or reason," an insider told E! News, before adding that they will be devoted to co-parenting their son, Tennessee. "They are just two people who have made this decision with the utmost love and respect and love for their child," the source added. "You will see them out there co-parenting together." Another source told Page Six a similar story: "There’s no big scandal or drama, just two people who essentially became co-parents and don’t really have any romantic feelings for each other anymore," they said, adding that there was "zero spark and zero romance left."
"She’s also become so much more powerful than she was when they married and has expanded her areas of interest in so many ways," the insider continued, before yet another source mentioned their business ventures, including Reese's Hello Sunshine media company which sold for $900M back in 2021. "They built a lot together," the source told the publication, adding, "their lives moved in a way that made them want to make this decision together."
