Reese Witherspoon just made the most amazing announcement ever: Legally Blonde 3 is officially happening! The actress will be returning to her role as Elle Woods for the next film. Not only that, but Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor are set to write the new film.

Posting on Instagram, the actress shared the exciting news: "Great news alert!! Some things are just meant to be! I'm SOOO excited to have @MindyKaling and #DanGoor writing Legally Blonde 3! This is #ElleWoodsApproved!"
Mindy Kaling also posted about the news on her Instagram, writing, "Finally some use for my Elle Woods fan fiction... Elle Woods is so iconic, proving you can be girly and smart at the same time. Bend and snap people!"
Witherspoon first shared news of the movie in 2018. At the time, she recreated her character's iconic Harvard application video, floating in the pool in her pink sequin bikini.
At the time, the actress captioned the post, "It's true... #LegallyBlonde3."
In 2017, the actress spoke about the possibility of another movie to E! News, explaining, "We've thought about it. I need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea and we'll do it. I do think it's a good time to do it—I think women need that kind of positivity right now."
The first Legally Blonde was first released in 2001 with its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, And Blonde coming out in 2003.
