Although cutting out dairy is a good idea if you have dairy sensitivities, being careful about your dairy alternatives is an important part of staying healthy–especially considering that not all dairy alternatives are created equal. With that in mind, staying away from certain “healthy” dairy alternatives is a smart way to feel your best.
Keep reading for the one non-dairy alternative you should never use!
Rice Milk
According to Eat This, Not That!, "Made from boiled rice, brown rice syrup, and brown rice starch, rice milk is higher in sugar than its legume and nut-based counterparts, and lower in protein."
Because this dairy alternative is so high in sugar, it can be really detrimental to your health--especially because you may not realize how much sugar you're actually adding.
Especially if you are adding this milk to coffee, you could be taking a healthy, metabolism-boosting drink and turning it into something else entirely.
Plus, by reducing the amount of protein, rice milk loses some nutritional value, making it an altogether unhealthy choice--especially if you are hoping to lose weight.
With that in mind, sticking to healthier options like nut milks, could be a better dairy-free alternative.
