Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts just issued an update about her girlfriend (or should we say, now fiancée!) Amber Laign’s health status, after being very open with fans about her breast cancer diagnosis last year.

Roberts told Entertainment Tonight that 2022 “was a rough year” for her longtime partner, who completed her radiation treatment in July 2022, adding: “Her journey with breast cancer took some unexpected twists and turns but she is doing really really well.”

Robin Roberts Updates Fans On Girlfriend Amber Laign's Health Status

"Doctors said when it comes to treatment, it's like women and shoes — they don't always fit — and so they had to find the right fit for her with treatment," Roberts, 62, continued, before going on to say that although she had a difficult time with chemotherapy, her prognosis "is excellent" and she's "ready to start a new chapter" in her life. We’re so happy to hear that!

Roberts revealed in 2022 that Laign, 49, had to suspend her radiation treatment due to some "complications with the chemotherapy," but was able to continue and complete it three months later, which Roberts celebrated the end of with an Instagram video showing Laign ringing the bell at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to signify the end of the treatment.

She captioned the video at the time: "Sweet Amber completing radiation, a very important phase of her treatment! We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers. Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time. This is indeed my #mondaymotivation."

Robin Roberts Previously Opened Up About Amber Laign's Breast Cancer Diagnosis In April 2022

Roberts previously opened up about her partner's breast cancer diagnosis in a candid interview with Ellen back in April 2022, saying she was more emotional watching the Plant Juice Oils founder go through it despite going through breast cancer herself in 2007, as well as the rare blood and bone-marrow disease myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) which required a bone marrow transplant in 2012. "I went through it twice, barely shed a tear," she said at the time. "I'm a puddle every time I think about what Amber is going through. But she is being so courageous and is handling it extremely well."

Roberts then went on to say that Laign, who she has been dating since 2005, helped her be the best "caregiver" she can be based on their previous experiences when the roles were reversed. "I'm able to kind of give her a roadmap because I've gone through it, but she's also given me a roadmap on how to be a caregiver," she added. "And I didn't realize how much I had blocked out during my journey, and it was because of sweet Amber – because she protected me and navigated for me. So, I'm doing the same thing for her."

Robin Roberts And Amber Laign Will Finally Tie The Knot In 2023

Perhaps the "new chapter" Roberts referenced earlier is in relation to her and Laign finally tying the knot after almost 20 years together! In an interview with Extra's Tommy DiDario, Roberts said, "It took us a while to get here because we've both been through so much healthwise," but they are both "so excited" that it can finally happen!

"There's some things you just want to keep to yourself, but we are so excited," Roberts said. "This is saying something to be with someone for 18 years and to be so excited. It's like a brand-new chapter, a fresh start. Couldn't be happier."

She then went on to discuss the honeymoon, saying: "I never thought I'd be planning not just the wedding but a honeymoon. When you grow up and you know that you're gay — especially older — you think that's never going to happen. You're not going to have the wedding. You're not going to have the honeymoon. And so now to be talking about it and for it to be embraced by folks, it's quite special… The save-the-dates are going out soon."
