Since making headlines earlier this year over allegations of a “toxic workplace,” Ellen DeGeneres has stayed out of the news.
However, Ryan Phillippe brought the rumors about the talk show host back to the center of everyone’s mind when he shaded DeGeneres over Instagram.

Phillippe took a break during his run to snap a picture in front of a billboard promoting The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
He added text to his selfie, quoting the host's now controversial tagline. The actor wrote, "And remember to be kind…"
However, he added a snarky "Wait" to the bottom of the photo, a clear reference to the accusations of the host's mean behavior to her staff and some guests.
Phillippe has not made an appearance on Ellen's show since 2011, and it appears that their friendship might have grown strained in those nine years.
However, Ellen is still close friends with Phillippe's ex-wife, Reese Witherspoon, who he shares two children with.
Reese last appeared on The Ellen Show in March. Although the actress has not spoke out in defense of the talk show host recently, according to PEOPLE, she has defended her friend in the past, specifically when Ellen was pictured with George W. Bush in 2019.
At the time, she quoted Ellen's tweet which read, “I have friends who don’t think the same things that I do. When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean be kind to the people who think the same way you do. I mean ..Be Kind to Everyone."
Witherspoon added her own message, "Thank you for this important reminder, Ellen!"
However, she later deleted the tweet.
Although we'll probably never know how Reese feels about Ryan's shady post, it's fair to say that the actor is less willing to put the rumors about Ellen out of mind than his ex-wife (and Ellen's other celebrity friends who have spoken out in support of her over the past few months).
