Amber Heard’s plans to donate her $7 million divorce settlement was recently put under intense scrutiny.
According to an article published by The Independent, the 36-year-old actress was interviewed by Today co-host Savannah Guthrie “about being ‘caught in a lie’ over her pledge to donate her $7 million divorce settlement to charity.” In case you didn’t know, this conversation with Guthrie marks Heard’s first sit-down interview since her defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp.

The outlet notes that during the NBC News Exclusive, Guthrie grilled Heard “over the discrepancies between her pledge and the actual payments made, questioning whether this raised doubts about her ‘credibility’ among the jury.”
Reports say that from the $7 million divorce settlement, the Aquaman actress had promised she would split the amount equally and donate it to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, respectively.
Guthrie asked Heard, “You had promised to donate the $7 million of your divorce settlement to charity. It was revealed at trial that you haven’t done so yet [but] they played a tape where you [said you had]. Do you think that raised questions as to your credibility with the jury?
This goes in relation with the fact that during the defamation trial, ACLU Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Terence Dougherty testified and explained to the jurors that the organization “had so far received less than half of the $3.5 million promised.”
Defending herself, Heard replied, “I split the amount between the ACLU and CHLA. ACLU is a prominent non-profit organization in the US and they work [on behalf] of marginalized communities on the ground, and in legislative reform…I wanted nothing. I made a pledge and that pledge is made over time by its nature.”
