Sean Penn is a diverse actor with a whole lot of range – but we weren’t expecting his *completely unrecognizable* transformation into Attorney General John Mitchell for the new Starz limited series, Gaslit, which premieres next month. Snaps to the entire hair, makeup, and wardrobe department, because we are in awe!

The 61-year-old actor is joined by Julia Roberts in the highly-anticipated limited series, and they play the roles of Arkansan socialite-turned-whistleblower Martha Mitchell and her husband in the series which depicts the untold stories of the 1972 Watergate scandal that ultimately led to President Richard Nixon resigning from office on August 9th, 1974.

In the first-look promo images released by Starz ahead of its premiere on Sunday, April 24th, Penn’s signature locks are nowhere to be seen, as they are replaced with an almost completely bald head, save for some faint white hairs on the sides.

But the Mystic River actor’s hair isn’t the only big change, as his physique is totally different too, as he is sporting a rounded belly in place of his usual toned and svelte frame, as well as a whole wardrobe of seventies-appropriate suits and ties. We weren’t expecting his makeover to be *this* accurate!

“Gaslit is the Watergate story you’ve never heard before,” creator and executive producer Robbie Pickering teased. “At the center of the show is Martha Mitchell, an unlikely whistleblower who is the first person to bust the whole scandal wide open and ultimately becomes the subject of a vicious White House smear campaign enacted in part by her own beloved husband, Attorney General John Mitchell.”

He added: “We also feature John Dean [played by Dan Stevens], a hotshot administration lawyer dragged into the coverup and thrust into the spotlight with his acerbic, whip-smart wife, Mo [played by Betty Gilpin.]” April 24th can’t come soon enough!
